Archives for January 2017
Usually there are a few clear winners in the ‘Best Dressed’ category, but this year I had such a hard time choosing- almost everyone looked stunning! I’m going to share a few of my favorites from the 2017 Golden Globes that were especially beautiful. Let me know which ones are your favorites and if I missed anyone!
- Millie Bobby Brown in Jenny Packham – At only TWELVE years old she is killing it on the red carpet. She will have no regrets looking back at her red carpet looks ten years from now. I wish I was half as with it as she is when I was her age…
2. Drew Barrymore in Monique Lhuillier– I love this look from the cold shoulders/wings to the sequin pleating. Her soft loose waves and makeup compliment the look beautifully.
3. Kristen Bell in unknowm & Mandy Moore in Naeem Khan – I was expecting tasteful plunging necklines this award seasons and here it is done so well. I love Kristen’s choice because of the straight structured lines framing her chest, which give it a real clean and sophisticated look. The long sleeves also keeps the dress looking appropriate even with the exposure. Now Mandy’s dress is a little more feminine and flirty. I love that it’s navy since I’ve seen a lot of black on the red carpet and navy is such an overlooked color. Also, the cape! Love the cape element- very fashion forward and different for the red carpet.
4. Thandie Newton in Monse – My second favorite look of the night… First of all, I love a white gown in winter because it is so unexpected and so easy to stand out from all the black dresses. Second, I love that her necklace is symmetrical with the neckline of the dress. You wouldn’t want to overpower this dress with standard necklace since the neckline and dress sequins are so eye-catching already. Lastly, the fire-y sequins at the bottom are super modern and unique, but at the same time not tasteless. You could look back at this outfit in ten years and still think it rocked.
Honorable Mentions: Gina Rodriguez, Kristen Wiig, Issa Rae, Sophie Turner, Felicity Huffman, and Emma Stone
I was lucky enough to have the chance to participate in Semester At Sea when I was a junior in college. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I’ve met some of the best people who I am fortunate to call my best friends. Every year we vowed to spend New Years Eve together and it just so happened that the 5 year reunion voyage fell on the same day. We sailed around the Pacific Ocean for four days, spending one day in Ensenada, Mexico. Of course it rained all day, forcing us to take shelter in a couple bars tasting the beverage of the land- Tequila. We spent the last few hours of 2016 dressed up, dancing in the middle of the ocean, while the ship rolled and we cheers-ed. I hope your holidays were filled with laughs and warmth.
Happy New Year!
